For the little town shut in by its ancient walls the term enclosed has a double meaning: enclosed in space but also in time. The old streets and old houses portrayed in Achille Rouquet's woodcuts, (from his book, La Ville du passé) and in Albert Robida's drawings in La cité de Carcassonne show a universe frozen in a timeless yesteryear.
